Unmanaged industrial switches deliver automation protocol prioritization

Industrial automation engineers can create leaner, more efficient applications with the new FL SWITCH 1000 family from Phoenix Contact.

Phoenix Contact has added a new series of unmanaged switches featuring a compact form factor, gigabit speeds, automation protocol traffic prioritization, and flexible installation options.

“Today’s networks have more devices than ever before, which leads to heavier network traffic,” notes the manufacturer.

Dubbed the FL SWITCH 1000 series, the new unmanaged switches feature automation protocol prioritization (APP) technology to answer this challenge, making it easy for networks to prioritize the most important traffic.

Via APP, mission-critical industrial communications, such as Ethernet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus/TCP, and BACnet, are sent through the network first.

The FL SWITCH 1000 series comes in five- and eight-port variants in widths of only 22.5 mm. The series’ 16-port switches measure 40 mm wide. The first models available support Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet transmission speeds with jumbo frame support.

With a panel-mount accessory, the switches can be mounted directly onto a cabinet or machine, making them suitable for applications without a DIN rail.

Further, the switches support Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az), so consume less power. This will reduce heat, lower costs, and help extend the life of the switch, all without changing the footprint of the device.
